2019 Mission of the Month Allocations

Our Mission of the Month allocations for 2019 cover both local and international, direct missionary & teaching work and aid & development, ministry training & Bible literacy:

  • January – Church Missionary Society (CMS)
  • February – Anglicare
  • March – Moore College, & Anglican Aid (Overseas Ministry Fund)
  • April – Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (for UBG@ UOW)
  • May – Church Missionary Society
  • June – Bible Society, & Scripture Union
  • July – Tim & Siew Mun Nicholls (with Equip Malaysia)
  • August – Wollongong Combined Churches Education Board (WCCEB)
  • September – Church Missionary Society
  • October – Regional Indigenous Ministries (Macarthur & Shoalhaven)
  • November – Anglican Youthworks
  • December – Church Missionary Society

Anything marked “Mission” via EFT giving is directed to the Mission of that Month. If you use the duplex envelopes for mission giving, your offertory will go by default to Mission of the Month. (Parish Council sometimes tops this up from general income.)

Parish Council also has a policy of only promoting those Christian missions and charities, adopted as a Mission of the Month, as we prefer to focus giving, prayers, and promotional energy on these specific groups, otherwise our efforts become too diluted. The Parish Council also enables opportunities to support a few other projects or mission groups via the one-off annual Thanksgiving Day.

Parish Council Update – December 2018
  • Liam Shannon gave his report covering the 9:30am & 7pm congregations, and the Establish/Equip areas, where responsibilities include growing and supporting leaders and teams, encouraging service in ministry and integrating newcomers.
  • Matt Shannon, (Youth Ministry Trainee) also presented a report on his work at St Michael’s in which he indicated his thankfulness for the time, money, generosity and prayer shown to him. Some encouraging highlights: 70 cars washed and invites given at one event, busking and collecting cans/bottles for SRE by youth keen to share the gospel and an increase in non-church youth due to kids’ club and SRE contact.
  • We had an initial review of the 2019 budget, noting several large projects undergoing due diligence, including AV upgrade and concept designs for the office.
  • The appointments of Meaghan Gates as Youth Ministry Trainee and Jo Stacey in Women’s Ministry for 2019, were minuted and resoundingly confirmed.
  • Marketview has agreed to investigate a mutual solution to improving the safety of the fence in the creche garden.
  • Several designs for comfortable, stackable chairs were tabled for the revised seating in the northern transept.
  • As with previous years, it was agreed that any unspent Poor Relief from the 2018 budget be directed to Anglicare W’gong.
