Jesus is life changing in the best possible way! That's why we run four different Explore Jesus courses each year, to help people meet Jesus for themselves. Explore Jesus is run as a small group, over 4-7 weeks, in a relaxed, safe space. Come along and find answers to the big questions you have about life and faith.

Growth Groups

Mid-week gatherings to grow in your love for God and fellowship

Growth Groups are small groups that meet on various week days and nights for Bible study, prayer and mutual care, with the aim of growing in trusting Jesus and living for him. It’s a great way to get to know other people from church, and to grow in faith together.

We host over 40 groups right across the Illawarra, including women's, men's and young adults' groups, with daytime and night time options. So there's something for everyone! A typical mid-week gathering lasts around 1.5-2 hours, but it's not just a meeting or event - it's a community where people can belong, grow, and share life together.

Term 1

  • Welcome study (outlining purpose & programme)
  • Sharing Hope – everyday evangelism training (5 studies)
  • Jonah & the dangers of Orthodoxy (4 studies)
  • Prayer week (resource provided)
    March 28-29th we are joining with churches across the region for ‘Hope for the Illawarra’. It’s personal evangelism on a mass scale. We’re praying God would fill WIN stadium 3 times over, with people we bring. Term 1 in GG is helping us make the most of this opportunity.

Term 2

  • Prayer week (resources provided)
  • Mark 9-16 (8 weeks) – The first half of Mark looks at Jesus’ identity. The second half focuses on his purpose. His work secures & shapes us. A gospel is also an easy entry to Growth Group for those you brought to Hope for the Illawarra.
  • Blessing others (As a group, determine how you will engage our community with sacrificial love, or Evangelise the lost with the gospel of Christ)

Term 3

  • Praying the Psalms part 1 (4 weeks) – Deepening our prayer-life together with the one book of the Bible directed to God.
  • Blessing others (As a group, determine how you will engage our community with sacrificial love, or Evangelise the lost with the gospel of Christ)
  • Reality Bites (4 weeks) – A focus for us as a church is the reach the marginalised, this series from Anglicare gives Biblical grounding & practical equipping.
  • Prayer week

Term 4

  • 1 Peter (8 weeks) – Looking more deeply at what will be preached on earlier in the year – what it is to be Christ’s disciples, ‘strangers in this world’. Returning allows us to have that part of God’s word to dwell richer.
  • Year reflection – How God has grown you in Christ’s image individually & a group
  • Blessing others at Christmas

Equip Training

Another way to 'grow' in your faith here at St Michael's is to join in our Equip training opportunities...

1. Equip Foundations: Equipping every Christian to be deeply rooted in the Bible and ready to serve, teach, and disciple others.

2. Equip Relationships: Equipping families and individuals to live out God’s design for relationships with clarity, conviction, and grace.

3. Equip Leaders: Equipping Bible centred leaders to shepherd God’s people and multiply disciples for mission.

4. Equip Harvest: Training, sending, and supporting fulltime gospel workers to reap Christ’s great harvest.

Serving at St Michael's

Serving at St Michael’s is a great way to use your gifts, meet new people, and make a difference in the life of our church. From welcoming at the door, helping with kids and youth, supporting our music and tech teams, or caring behind the scenes, every role matters. As we serve one another, we grow together in Christ and share his love with our community.

Hospitality

Why we give

Psalm 24:1 implies that anything and everything we have comes from God. We are to use his good gifts in ways that honour him. The Bible tells us God’s people should give because:

Most fundamentally, we give in grateful response to the generosity of God, shown in the death of his Son. So the most basic question to ask is: how much have we received from God? In 2 Corinthians 8:9, Paul writes:

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Credit Card

You can make a secure donation using a credit or debit card below.

We do incur a small 1.7% transaction fee for gifts via credit card, which makes Direct Deposit a better option for regular giving (as the gifts end up in the same bank account).

If you would prefer to give by cash, you are welcome to bring it to a Sunday service and place it in the secure offertory box located at the front or back of the cathedral, before or after the service. Cash gifts can also be brought to the Church Office during weekday office hours.

If you would like to give cash regularly, please use anonymous dated envelopes (available in the cathedral foyer and entry at Corrimal).

Bequests

You can make a lasting contribution to the work of the gospel by leaving a bequest in your will. Contact us for advice about suggested wording for such a gift.

St Michael’s Cathedral and Halls are listed on the NSW State Heritage Register (database number 5045655), and a National Trust Fund exists for the maintenance of the buildings. Donations to the fund are tax-deductible, and gifts can be made by cash (to the Office) or by direct deposit.
