February Mission & Parish Council Update

Mission Update – Moore College and Anglican Aid

In March, Mission of the Month giving is directed to Moore College, and to Anglican Aid for their Overseas Ministry Fund.

Moore College’s vision longs “to see faithful, thoughtful and biblical ministry which honours the Lord Jesus Christ in all the world.” They go on to state, “We enable men and women to deepen their knowledge of God, through higher education in the field of theology.” There are also post-graduate study and in-service training options, as well as their excellent suite of distance education options for Christians around the world.

Both Liam and Sandy have recently benefitted from professional development offered by their Centre for Ministry Development.

Please pray for wisdom and faithfulness for Principal, Dr Mark Thompson, and faculty members, including Dr Lionel Windsor, who formerly served at St Michael’s.

Funds from Anglican Aid’s Overseas Ministry Fund provide subsidies for African men and women from nations like Tanzania, South Africa, Egypt and Zimbabwe, to train at evangelical Bible colleges, often in their own cultural contexts. Anglican Aid’s Waterworks is tax deductible (and we raised about $3000 recently), but this Ministry Fund is not. For as little as a dollar a day we can help train tomorrow’s evangelists, pastors and teachers across Africa to grow churches and bring the message of Jesus to a new generation.

In related news, Archbishop of Uganda, Laurent Mbanda, will be preaching at St Michael’s on the evening of April 28,  visiting us with the assistance of Anglican Aid’s, David Mansfield, when the Archbishop is coming to Sydney for the GAFCON Primates Council.

Parish Council Update
  • Sandy is currently processing his recent ‘360 Degree’ review.
  • We noted encouraging interest in our current and pending Christianity courses.
  • Leaders in Training (LIT) was noted as one of the most significant conferences our parish is involved with for its assistance in generating new junior leaders.
  • Andrew Moody was announced as the speaker for our annual Church Conference – this time a Day Conference on May 18; topic in the area of the ‘Doctrine of God’.
  • The AGM is scheduled for Monday March 25. Please note this date in your diary. The budget for 2019 has been finalised and will be presented along with reports for 2018.
  • Luke Thompson has been collating feedback from staff and parish councillors to concept work by Hector Abrahams Architects on the current office building.
  • It is worth noting that we always review any safety incidents over the past month, and the most recent biennial WH&S meeting was held in February: items reviewed included car park management and the lightning strike on the Cathedral grounds. Previous safety reviews have led to UOW installing safer fencing on the boundary with our children’s ministry area downstairs in hall.
  • We authorised expenditure for professional development day for our admin staff.
  • We will launder existing round table cloths and purchase an additional six new ones.
