We’re seeking your pledge for 2025
Gospel opportunities abound and we want to take more of them. Given the budget shortfall this year, the Wardens and Parish Council are seeking pledges to determine whether the current staffing level is affordable. Our properties need work so they best serve the gospel such as Cathedral lighting and flooring, Corrimal building repairs, drainage at both sites and plans to overhaul the current office building to create space for further ministry. This is beyond our normal costs of ‘keeping the lights on’ and maintaining ministries. Therefore, we’re asking you to declare your intended giving in 2025. It may increase, decrease or remain unchanged. Whatever the case, that information is helpful and powerful in our planning and resourcing for St Michael’s ministry in 2025. It will be anonymous – as your giving is and should be. We’re aware circumstances will change and your current intention might not be exactly accurate. But your intention helps us plan and steward as best we can for God’s kingdom and sharing the good news of Jesus.
By God’s grace, your generosity has made it possible to…
- Employ Hosea full-time as an Assistant Minister, with particular shepherding of our Easy English & 9:45am congregations.
- 22 guests have completed Explore Jesus courses this year.
- Engage our community via the Art Exhibition – our Art & Craft ministry has doubled in size!
- Launch a new church ‘Prayer Resource’.
- Baptism of 14 believers & 7 Confirmations.
- Host 2 x Kids Holiday Clubs reaching 22 from our community… leading to Kids Club doubling in size!
- Install new heaters for winter warmth in the Cathedral
- Complete a minor refurbishment of offices to house our growing staff team.
- Fix drainage & water ingress at the Corrimal UniHouse.
- Support ministry and mission beyond St Michael’s through our mission partners & via Annual Thanksgiving Day.
- … and more!
In the coming years we’re focusing on:
- Congregational growth and church plants
- External caring for and reaching the marginalised
- Pastoral care of members
- Training and sending disciples to serve elsewhere
- Master property plan and strategy
FAQs
What is a pledge?
A pledge is the amount a person or giving unit (often household) has decided to give for the following year. Pledges are used to shape next year’s budget and covers ministry and operational costs.
Why pledge?
It’s a good spiritual discipline. Thoughtfully declaring your plan for generosity helps protect your heart. God provides and we want to serve Him as good stewards. Your pledge is helpful for our planning – it helps Parish Council make informed and wise decisions to shape the budget for next year. You’re free to give without pledging, but it is of great help to Parish Council if you do.
How long will my pledge last?
From January to December 2025. But we understand that circumstances change, both between pledging and the new year, and during 2025. We’d love you to let us know if this happens; you could do so confidentially via a Connect Card (eg: “I currently give $X, and need to drop to $X for the remainder of the year”).
Why pledge now?
To commit to staff employment for 2025 and progress property projects, advanced knowledge of our offertory income to support these is helpful. When hiring new staff, the ideal time to advertise and interview is August.
Why talk about money so much at this time of year?
We ask you to pledge now so Parish Council can make wise decisions in committing to staff and projects for 2025. In addition to asking for your pledges, we celebrate Annual Thanksgiving Day near ‘St Michael’s Day’ (Sept 29). Out of our thankfulness we ask people to give financially to projects beyond our church. We want you to be informed about the opportunities to give so you can plan what and who you partner with financially.
How do I pledge?
Pray and discuss with your household (if appropriate). Please fill out the pledge twice – a copy for you to keep and one to return to church (paper or electronic). You can find the electronic form here: Pledge 2025.
Is it confidential?
Yes. We are not asking for people’s names on the returned forms. A small financial team compiles the information.
Where does my giving go?
At St Michael’s, offertory is the sole source of income to pay staff costs and cover operational costs such as ministry resources and ‘keeping the lights on’. Any additional money helps with property improvements.
