A few weeks ago, 60 youth and leaders from St Michael’s spent a weekend in Katoomba at KYCK Youth Convention.
What an encouragement it was to join with over 2,000 youth from around NSW and beyond, hearing from God’s Word, singing together and being equipped to boldly live the Christian life. Many of our youth expressed what a great joy it was to be with so many other Christian people their age, and were reminded of the unity that we have in God’s kingdom of believers.
It was also great to spend time as a St Mick’s Youth community, growing in relationships with each other, travelling and eating together, sharing and praying with one another.
This year the talks were from the book of John and the youth were encouraged to BELIEVE, LOVE and REMAIN in Christ, even as they face opposition in a world that rejects them and rejects Jesus.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
Praise God that 79 young people committed their lives to Christ for the first time and 116 people recommitted their lives to Him at KYCK Week 1 (and many more made commitments the following 2 weekends).
A personal highlight for me was hearing Lydia Funcik (Year 12) share her testimony at the conference. Lydia spoke of the way Jesus has worked in her life and brought her into his kingdom, and of the impact that KYCK has had on her growth throughout her high school years.
Praise God for the way he is working through the ministry of KYCK in the lives of thousands of teenagers each year. Praise God that in 2020, KYCK will be growing from 3 conferences to 4 conferences per year (3 weekends in April and 1 in September). It is great to see how God is continuing to grow this conference for his glory, and that more and more youth will have the opportunity to attend KYCK each year.
Please pray for our youth minister, Andy Stevenson, as he chairs the KYCK committee – for rest and refreshment after a busy few weeks (and months!) and for wisdom as he now looks towards a big year for KYCK in 2020.
Please also pray for the young people of our church – that they will be reflecting on what they learnt at KYCK from the Gospel of John, and that they will be continuing to grow in their love and knowledge of Christ.
