Congratulations on your engagement!
We are delighted you are getting married and interested in celebrating your wedding in a Christian setting at St Michael’s Anglican Cathedral, in the heart of Wollongong. We look forward to helping you plan your wedding. We will do our best to make your wedding day a great occasion that honours God and brings joy to you and your families and friends.
The following advice should answer most initial questions. After that, please complete the wedding enquiry form below, and we’ll get back to you.
Preparing for Marriage
We want to prepare you for a strong marriage — not just a beautiful wedding day.
As part of planning your wedding at St Michael’s, all couples complete a pre-marriage course with a Minister (typically Prepare). Through discussion and input, you’ll explore common marriage topics and strengthen your relationship for the long term.
Since being married at St Michael’s involves seeking God’s blessing, the course will also look at what the Bible says about marriage. You’ll usually meet with a Minister 2–3 times, and attendance at all sessions is required. Preparation details will be arranged around six months before your wedding.
Preparing for the Wedding
You may choose from two Anglican marriage services, along with your preferred Bible readings and suitable music. These meetings are a great opportunity to discuss your choices and ask any questions.
You’ll also complete the Notice of Intended Marriage and will need to provide your original birth certificates or certified extracts (not photocopies). Please allow several weeks if ordering these.
In the week before your wedding, you’ll meet with the Minister for a brief rehearsal and to finalise the required paperwork.
Wedding Fees
After submitting the enquiry form, we’ll contact you with fee details and confirm availability of your date and Minister. Your booking is confirmed once we receive the required information and a $400 non-refundable deposit.
St Michael’s Cathedral (built 1858–59 and heritage listed) is costly to maintain, so your deposit supports its upkeep through the National Trust. Once paid in full, you’ll receive a receipt to claim the deposit as a tax-deductible donation.
Fees include the marriage preparation course, flowers, an organist, and Cathedral staff to help your day run smoothly.
At St Michael’s, we believe you and your family matter to God. Baptism is offered to those who profess faith in Christ and are actively part of the church community, as well as to their children. It is a meaningful step of faith, expressing trust in Jesus and belonging to His family.
Considering Baptism?
Baptism is a sign that points to God’s generosity. It’s a symbol of the new life God alone can give; a reminder that God welcomes into His family and kingdom those who’ve done nothing to deserve it. He saves by His power, not our effort.
Water baptism is only offered to people who profess faith in Christ and are attending church regularly, and to the children of such believers.
Therefore we do not offer baptism to adults (or their children) who are not attending church regularly.

Every child is a precious gift from God. A Service of Thanksgiving is a joyful opportunity to thank Him for your child and to pray for His blessing on your family.
What to expect?
In a Service of Thanksgiving, we invite you to name your child publicly, give thanks to God for their life, and pray for His care and guidance over them. We also pray for you as parents, asking God to strengthen and support you as you raise your child.
This is a meaningful family occasion centred on gratitude and prayer. There is no water involved in this service, and as your child grows, they will have the opportunity to respond personally to God in faith.
The service usually lasts around 20 minutes, and there is no fee — it is our gift to you.
