Mission Update – Anglican Youthworks

In November, Mission of the Month giving is devoted to Anglican Youthworks. It aims to support the work of the gospel in churches and schools to present children, youth and families mature in Christ. Youthworks’ vision is to see an effective youth and children’s ministry in every church. Our kids are the church’s future and also already a key part of the present!

Youthworks provides SRE curriculum, and teacher training and accreditation; College training for youth and children’s ministry workers (including Andy Stevenson, Josh Hayward and now Matt Shannon); online theological education via Timothy Partnership; book publishing (like Patricia Weerakoon’s material); camping and conference site ministries; the and websites.

But today, I’d like to stress two great opportunities. The first is the LiT (Leaders in Training) camp. Dozens of our senior high kids have benefitted and gone on into junior leadership. I encourage your Year 10-12 kids to attend. Speak to Andy.

2018 is also the 20th anniversary Youthworks Year 13 Gap Year program, which Rev Michael Williamson (from Shellharbour) now directs. One statistic… 93% of students who complete Year 13 stay in church, compared to 66% of their peers aged 19 and 49% of their peers by age 26. And 92% stay actively serving in ministry. Think about it for the young Christian school leavers you know here and elsewhere – !

Parish Council Update – October
  • As always, we start with a member’s prayer & Bible reading – this time Matt 6:25-34.
  • We received a report from Reg Piper about 8am and seniors’ ministries and his ministries beyond!
  • We were encouraged by your generous St Michael’s Day Thanksgiving Gift of $38,000+! Distribution is underway.
  • We noted Sandy will use accrued annual leave 9/12/18-23/1/19.
  • We approved in principle budgeting for an additional ministry trainee to focus on children’s ministry, in line with Sandy’s proposals about staffing for 2019.
  • We approved the gift of 90 surplus hymn books to CMS missionaries in Tanzania.
  • We noted the feedback on the northern transept plans is largely positive and agreed to obtain further advice from the heritage architect on this matter.
  • We were thankful for the efforts of those who spread 10T of topsoil on the long weekend Monday.
  • We approved purchase of a replacement whiteboard for the office, and an anti-slip matt for the bathroom in the downstairs children’s ministry area in the hall.
