I’m looking for a new hashtag.
A hashtag is a phrase preceded by a hash sign (#), used on social media to identify messages on a specific topic. Better still if short or witty!
You may know I enjoy reading the news, staying in touch with current affairs, as well as theology and ethics. Lately, I’ve had a bonanza of stories that could turn into Scripture and sermon illustrations, and so I’m looking for a hashtag to share and comment on them with. My working title is #QuickBibleReacts. Here’s a sample…
The owner of Canada’s largest cryptocurrency exchange has unexpectedly died at the age of 30, taking with him the only password for a digital account holding AUD$262 million of customers’ money… “Unfortunately, these efforts [to locate and secure very significant cryptocurrency reserves] have not been successful.”
#QuickBibleReacts – Proverbs 23:5 “Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
In 2016, Julie Lawson, took a home DNA test. Later, she persuaded her sister … to take one too… This was their father’s secret. He had a child they never knew about. Then came a second shock. Ms Lawson’s test showed no visible genetic connection to this new man. This was their mother’s secret: Ms Lawson was the product of [an] extramarital affair. The man who raised her wasn’t her biological father. … Genetic counsellor Brianne Kirkpatrick [said]: “I have become of the mindset it is not a matter of if the secrets will come out. It is a matter of when…”
#QuickBibleReacts – Hebrews 4:13 “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
Younger women are dyeing their locks in shades from slate to titanium, and those who are naturally fading are embracing their colour… Annie Hu of Joico connects the trend to a larger movement towards transparency in beauty: “We’re at a time when we are embracing so much individuality and authenticity.” For the young women, painstakingly dyeing their hair grey at great cost, it’s more about the illusion of authenticity…”
#QuickBibleReacts – 1Peter 3:3-4 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
Can you do better than #QuickBibleReacts? Or offer better Scriptural reactions?
