EQUIP TRAINING YEAR

At St Michael’s our vision is to see more disciples of Jesus shining as lights in our city.

One of our key strategies is to equip generations of believers for ministry. Under this heading, we have three leadership principles:

• Initiative in leadership and use of gifts by members;
• Training disciple-makers to speak the truth in love to one another and beyond;
• Partnering with and sending workers for global mission, until Jesus returns.

This implies that disciples equipped at St Michael’s will not only mature here, but many will go on to serve elsewhere in the Illawarra and beyond.

In particular, the aim of this training year is to grow people in theological depth and leadership skills – or as we often say, to keep growing them in conviction, character and competence.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Equip Training Year is a chance for any and all church members to spend time each week (during school terms), training in reading and understanding the Bible better, and in learning practical ministry skills. This year (2024) we are moving to Wednesday evenings.

The time required each week is 2 hours on Wednesday evenings (7-9pm), and 2-3 hours extra preparation and reading each week. It’s designed to be done alongside work or other study, and you may like to consider taking a break from your growth group for the year.

Over the course of the year we will complete four Moore College PTC subjects:

  • Promise to Fulfilment (OT overview)
  • Pentateuch (Genesis- Deuteronomy)
  • Doctrine (Knowing God)
  • Ephesians.

In addition, we will do some training in practical ministry skills – serving at church, loving people well, sharing the gospel and sharing our own story.

Please get in touch with Stacey Chapman (Assistant Minister) if you’d like to find out more.
