Giving

Why We Give

Psalm 24:1 implies that anything and everything we have comes from God. We are to use his good gifts in ways that honour him. The Bible tells us God’s people should give because:

  1. We are partners in God’s gospel. (Philippians 1:5 & 4:15)
  2. We have an obligation to provide for those who labour amongst us in the Lord and teach us God’s word. (1 Corinthians 9:7-14)
  3. We must show love to those in need. (Ephesians 4:281 John 3:17)

Most fundamentally, we give in grateful response to the generosity of God, shown in the death of his Son. So the most basic question to ask is: how much have we received from God? In 2 Corinthians 8:9, Paul writes:

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Ways To Give

There are two ways you can give to the work of the gospel at St Michael’s.

  1. Regular offertory for Ministry Giving
  2. National Trust Cathedral Restoration Fund

Giving via regular offertory is used to support the ministry staff  who work at the church and ongoing costs associated with our ministries. If you would like to give to our Mission of the Month, write “Mission” in the internet banking description or place it in an envelope marked “Mission”.

For More Information

Contact the office or our Wardens for more information on the current financial administration of St Michael’s. As we decide how much we can cheerfully give for now, let’s ask God to make us more generous year by year, as we understand more about the cross of Christ.
